Africa-Press – Cape verde. <\/strong><\/span>The approximately 20 secondary school students in Cha\u0303 de Norte, in Porto Novo, Santo Anta\u0303o, have once again faced problems with school transport, walking to school in four kilometers, round trip , this is during the exam period.<\/p>\n

As reported by Inforpress, at issue is the fact that the owner of the vehicle that transports them has interrupted the transport service, claiming the delay in the payment of a debt owed by the Municipality of Porto Novo, an entity that shares with the Fundac\u0327a\u0303o Social Escolar (Ficase ) the responsibility of ensuring school transport.<\/p>\n

Teacher Justina Miranda, who has been supporting these students, confirmed to Inforpress that, since last Monday, students have been walking to Ribeira da Cruz, a four-kilometre route (round trip).<\/p>\n

Debt to be settled by the chamber<\/p>\n

At the start of the school year, the Porto City Council paid off part of the debt and the other part remained to be settled by the end of October, which did not happen, according to the driver of the vehicle, who, therefore, decided to suspend transport until the situation is rectified.<\/p>\n

However, the delegate of the Ministry of Education in Porto Novo, Leonildo Oliveira, said that on the part of Ficase, the existing protocol with the city council, in terms of school transport, is being complied with, but that it is analyzing with the City Hall \u201cthe what’s going on” so that this situation can be resolved “as soon as possible”.<\/p>\n

Teacher Justina Miranda said that, in these days, when students are in the exam season, she has mobilized the community to support the transport of students, urging the entities responsible for school transport to solve the problem.<\/p>\n
