Africa-Press. A drone strike on a market in Sudan’s North Kordofan state resulted in the deaths of several civilians and injuries to others.

A local source reported that a drone hit the market in the Abu Zaimah area of the Hamrat Sheikh neighborhood on Saturday morning. The attack resulted in the deaths of 11 civilians and injuries to dozens, according to initial reports.

The source stated that the strike came less than 24 hours after similar drone attacks targeted villages and a civilian vehicle in the same area, noting that the repeated targeting of civilians, villages, and civilian transport reflects a “blatant disregard” for human life and the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.

The source emphasized that the ongoing loss of civilian lives should not be treated as routine and called for an end to such attacks, as well as accountability for those responsible. The entity behind the attack has not been identified.

The region has witnessed intense fighting in recent weeks as the Sudanese army seeks to regain territory from the Rapid Support Forces. The source also reported that four people were killed and six others injured in drone attacks targeting two villages in North Kordofan on Friday.

The United Nations warned in May of an increase in drone attacks across the Kordofan region, stating that these strikes have killed at least 880 civilians between January and April 2026. The areas of North, South, and West Kordofan have experienced violent fighting since October 2025.
