Africa. <\/strong> <\/span>Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received AFRICOM Commander General Dagvin Anderson in Addis Ababa for a high-level meeting focused on regional security issues and opportunities to expand cooperation between Ethiopia and the United States.<\/p>\n

According to the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, the talks centered on enhancing joint coordination on security and stability in the Horn of Africa, and on exploring ways to strengthen defense cooperation in ways that serve mutual interests and promote regional peace.<\/p>\n

In the same context, Ethiopian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula held a meeting with the U.S. military delegation led by General Anderson. The two sides discussed peace support and counterterrorism efforts in the region.<\/p>\n

Field Marshal Berhanu noted that Ethiopia\u2013U.S. military relations have a long history and continue to grow steadily. He highlighted Ethiopia\u2019s key role in counterterrorism across the Horn of Africa and explained that Ethiopia\u2019s pursuit of sea access is part of its vision for peace and economic development, emphasizing that this goal will be pursued through peaceful means.<\/p>\n

For his part, General Anderson praised Ethiopia\u2019s role in strengthening regional security and stability, affirming that Washington and Addis Ababa will continue expanding their cooperation in counterterrorism. He added that gaining sea access would enable Ethiopia to contribute more effectively to the security of the Red Sea and the broader region.<\/p>\n

General Anderson concluded by stating that he would convey to officials in Washington the outcomes of the discussions and Ethiopia\u2019s vision to build long-term security and development partnerships in the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n

Ethiopia has been a focal point for U.S. interests in East Africa, particularly concerning security and stability in the region. The U.S. Africa Command (Africom) plays a crucial role in addressing security challenges, including terrorism and regional conflicts, which have significant implications for U.S. foreign policy and regional partnerships.
