A recent attack by the Mobondo rebel group near Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, has left 13 civilians dead. The assault occurred in the Kwamot area, where government forces engaged the rebels, resulting in additional casualties. This incident underscores the ongoing violence and instability in the region, particularly from emerging militia groups.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Africa. <\/strong> <\/span>A recent attack by the Mobondo rebel group near Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has resulted in the deaths of 13 civilians. The assault occurred in the Kwamot area, close to one of the capital’s municipalities.<\/p>\n

According to a local source, the attack also led to the deaths of several others, including three children. Government forces managed to eliminate five members of the Mobondo group, while one Congolese soldier was killed and another was seriously injured.<\/p>\n

The Mobondo militia emerged in 2022 and primarily consists of the local Yaka people, instilling fear among the population throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo.<\/p>\n

Earlier in November, a rebel coalition from the Congo River Alliance (AFC) and the March 23 Movement seized the Bohimba area in North Kivu province, further exacerbating the security situation.<\/p>\n

In early 2025, the March 23 Movement intensified its activities in eastern DRC, with authorities reporting the capture of key towns in North and South Kivu provinces, amid allegations of Rwandan support for the rebels, which Kigali denies.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has faced persistent conflict and instability, particularly in its eastern regions. Various militia groups, including the Mobondo, have emerged in recent years, often exploiting local grievances and ethnic tensions. The Mobondo group, formed in 2022, primarily consists of the local Yaka people and has been involved in violent confrontations with government forces, contributing to the humanitarian crisis in the country.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Mobondo, other rebel factions, such as the March 23 Movement, have intensified their activities, particularly in North Kivu province.<\/p>\n
