C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding worth $487.18 million to strengthen the Ivorian health system. The agreement, announced by Prime Minister Robert Beugr\u00e9 Mamb\u00e9, aims to enhance health security and domestic resource mobilization, with a focus on HIV\/AIDS and maternal health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Africa. <\/strong> <\/span>Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, worth $487.18 million (about 272 billion CFA francs), aimed at strengthening Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s health system. The signing ceremony was chaired by Prime Minister Robert Beugre\u0301 Mambe\u0301, with government officials and a US delegation in attendance.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister said the agreement aligns with the United States\u2019 new global health strategy, \u201cAmerica First,\u201d which emphasizes domestic resource mobilization and shared responsibility. He also recalled long-standing US support in the health sector, particularly in the fight against HIV\/AIDS and in responding to health emergencies for more than two decades.<\/p>\n

The memorandum provides for a gradual co-financing approach by Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire. By 2030, the country is expected to mobilize 163 billion CFA francs, representing 60% of the overall package, with the aim of strengthening autonomous management of the health system and contributing to global health security. The Prime Minister urged the relevant ministers to ensure that commitments under the agreement are fully respected.<\/p>\n

US Ambassador to Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire Jessyca Ba described the signing as an important milestone in bilateral cooperation. She said the five-year partnership signals a shift toward a model based on innovation, trade, and shared prosperity. The US funding will support priority actions in HIV\/AIDS, malaria, maternal and child health, as well as health security.<\/p>\n

She also welcomed Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s commitment to increase domestic health spending by about 250 billion CFA francs over the period, including 70 billion earmarked for co-investment in medicines and inputs. She concluded by stating that the United States remains a leading partner for Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire in the health sector.<\/p>\n

Health Minister Pierre Dimba said a joint governance mechanism will be put in place to monitor the implementation of the agreement, ensure targets are met, and strengthen the country\u2019s capacity to manage its health system.<\/p>\n

Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire has faced significant health challenges, particularly in managing diseases like HIV\/AIDS and malaria. Over the past two decades, the United States has been a crucial partner in addressing these issues, providing support and resources to improve health outcomes in the country. This new agreement marks a continuation of that partnership, aiming to enhance Co\u0302te d\u2019Ivoire’s health system and ensure sustainable health financing.<\/p>\n
