Africa-Press. <\/strong> <\/span>Tensions continue in the Tigray region as the federal government\u2019s control over Amhara has visibly weakened. Armed fighters in the region, known as Fano, have managed to retake large areas after three years of clashes with the government.<\/p>\n

Fano forces have recaptured key towns, including Debre Tabor, about 100 kilometers from the region\u2019s capital, while the town has been hit by repeated drone strikes over the past week.<\/p>\n

According to Amhara\u2019s Peace and Security Bureau, which is affiliated with the federal government, Amhara forces are receiving intelligence and logistical support from Tigray forces and Eritrea.<\/p>\n

Fano has strengthened its positions in several strategic areas, while federal authorities attribute this advance to what they described as \u201ccollusion\u201d between armed factions that were previously at war.<\/p>\n

During the Tigray war (2021\u20132022), Amhara and Tigray fighters were direct rivals. However, many analysts now point to the emergence of new alliances between the two sides\u2014albeit limited and tactical\u2014in their confrontation with the federal government. Even so, reports say these armed groups remain fragmented and lack effective coordination on the ground.<\/p>\n

The withdrawal of federal forces from Amhara and their redeployment to Tigray has also created space for the militants to achieve further battlefield gains.<\/p>\n

In response, the leader of the Tigray People\u2019s Liberation Front denied the accusations against his faction, saying the government is preparing to launch a broad war in the area. He renewed his appeal to the international community today, stressing that he \u201cwill not stand idly by\u201d if the 2022 peace agreement is not respected.<\/p>\n
