Africa-Press. <\/strong> <\/span>President Mamadi Doumbouya has announced the date for the upcoming legislative and local elections, marking a significant step towards restoring constitutional order in the country.<\/p>\n

Doumbouya has set Sunday, May 24, for the legislative and local elections. These elections come after years of governance by a National Transitional Council, which has held legislative power since the fall of the previous regime.<\/p>\n

Mamadi Doumbouya won the presidential elections held on December 28, securing 86.72% of the votes, officially taking office for a seven-year term.<\/p>\n

His election concluded a transitional phase that began in September 2021 when the military ousted the then-elected president, Alpha Conde\u0301, dissolved parliament, and established the National Transitional Council.<\/p>\n

Since then, the National Transitional Council has served as the interim legislative authority. The organization of legislative and local elections in May is viewed as a crucial step towards reinstating elected institutions and solidifying the path back to constitutional governance after more than four years of transitional rule.<\/p>\n
