The authority added in its statement, &#8220;Discussions are ongoing to establish a mechanism that aligns with national priorities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Congo, located in Central Africa, is battling a Rwanda-backed rebellion in its mineral-rich east, and security support and investment are part of a minerals partnership signed with the United States to improve access to Congo&#8217;s vast resources of copper, cobalt, and lithium.<\/p>\n<p>The new unit will be deployed across all mining regions nationwide, and it is expected to exceed 20,000 personnel by the end of 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Congo, the largest supplier of cobalt and the second-largest producer of copper in the world, has stated that it seeks to enhance security around strategic mineral assets as part of broader efforts to attract investment and curb the activities of armed groups in mining areas.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the government signed a separate agreement with China aimed at boosting investments amid increasing geopolitical competition for its minerals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-article-footer-note\">Find more news and analyses on <span class=\"ap-highlight-country\">Africa<\/span> on the <span class=\"ap-highlight-brand\">Africa Press<\/span> website<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press.
