Africa-Press. <\/strong> <\/span>The announcement of the preliminary results for the second round of legislative elections in the Central African Republic, held on April 26, 2026, has been postponed. The results were originally scheduled to be published on Monday, May 3, according to the timeline set forth in the electoral law, which allows for the announcement of results within eight days of the voting date.<\/p>\n

Internal sources reported a disruption within the national electoral authority, where IT staff at its data processing center withheld the results in protest of unpaid salaries that have been overdue for two months. Reports indicated that this action has hindered the announcement process, leaving the country in a state of anticipation for a new publication date.<\/p>\n

The national electoral authority confirmed that its activities are currently halted, noting that negotiations with the striking employees have begun in an effort to reach a swift resolution to end the crisis.<\/p>\n

Employees had demanded the payment of their financial entitlements before the second round of voting, and a temporary agreement was reached between the parties at that time.<\/p>\n

Sources quoted an IT specialist at the data processing center, speaking on condition of anonymity, stating that “false promises are like a losing game,” adding that employees decided to escalate their protests eight days after the elections, preventing the announcement of results until overdue salaries are paid.<\/p>\n

In response, several observers and civil society organizations have urged authorities and international partners to intervene urgently to resolve the crisis and ensure the electoral process resumes normally.<\/p>\n

Despite the delay in announcing the results of the second round, elected representatives from the first round officially began their duties on Monday, May 3, during a special session that will last until May 18, aimed at installing members of parliament, forming the national assembly bureau, and establishing permanent committees and parliamentary groups.<\/p>\n
