Africa-Press. <\/strong> <\/span>The government of Mauritius has announced a temporary ban on the entry of foreign nationals who have visited, passed through, or resided in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, or South Sudan in the last 21 days.<\/p>\n

This measure comes in response to the latest outbreak of the Ebola virus, which has also prompted the island nation in the Indian Ocean to propose postponing the U.S.-Africa Economic Summit scheduled for July 26 to 29.<\/p>\n

The government stated in a release that Mauritian citizens and foreigners holding valid work or residence permits, or student visas, who have traveled from, through, or been present in the three countries during the previous 21 days will be allowed entry into Mauritius, provided they undergo mandatory quarantine for 21 days upon arrival.<\/p>\n

The statement added that mandatory health checks and risk assessments will be implemented at entry points for travelers coming from the affected countries, with immediate isolation and clinical evaluation for any traveler showing symptoms consistent with the virus.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health and Wellness confirmed that it will enhance active surveillance measures and contact tracing.<\/p>\n

The African Union noted that the Ebola outbreak in the three countries continues to pose a serious threat to regional public health, while the World Health Organization declared it a public health emergency of international concern.<\/p>\n

According to the latest data from the World Health Organization, there have been 381 confirmed cases of the disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including 64 deaths.<\/p>\n

The outbreak has affected three provinces, with the main focus in Ituri Province, which accounts for about 90% of the total confirmed cases and 76% of recorded deaths, according to data from the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n

The outbreak has also extended to neighboring Uganda, where 16 confirmed cases and one death have been reported.<\/p>\n

In contrast, health authorities have announced the recovery of seven patients in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and two patients in Uganda, amid ongoing efforts to contain the disease and prevent it from escalating into a widespread regional health crisis.<\/p>\n

Health experts warn that the speed of detecting infections, isolating patients, and providing necessary funding for the response will remain critical factors in determining the course of the outbreak in the coming months.<\/p>\n
