He expressed that he is losing &#8220;everything due to fear.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He is among hundreds of Nigerians still waiting for evacuation from South Africa. More than 600 Nigerians have been returned to their country in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>South African authorities claim that those who were deported were residing in the country illegally, a claim that Nigeria denies. Approximately 25,000 citizens from other African countries left South Africa following a wave of protests in recent weeks organized by groups demanding the government take more action to curb illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>Some anti-immigration groups had given illegal foreigners a deadline until June 30 to leave the country and organized marches attended by thousands of people on Tuesday. These marches were mostly peaceful, although there were sporadic incidents of violence against foreigners.<\/p>\n<p>South African police reported that around 900 people were arrested, most on immigration and looting charges. The acting Nigerian High Commissioner stated that he has requested all those who left South Africa to &#8220;accurately document their properties left behind, including businesses, vehicles, and movable and immovable assets.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that all claims will be verified before any official request is made.
