He clarified that the Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan stipulates that there should be “one army” in the country after the war ends.

In the following is the text of the interview:
After more than three years of war, how do you assess the current situation in Darfur?

The war waged by the Rapid Support Forces against Darfur is not merely a military conflict; it is a systematic genocide against civilians in a region that is experiencing catastrophic humanitarian conditions, especially with the displacement of hundreds of thousands and the complete collapse of essential services.

However, thanks to the resilience of the people of Darfur and the sacrifices of our armed forces, we have begun to sense signs of field victory. What is happening in Darfur is not just a military conflict; it is a war against the civilians themselves, targeting the destruction of infrastructure and forcing the population to flee.

There are reports discussing scenarios for dividing Sudan; what is your stance on these calls?

The people of Darfur are an integral part of the components of the Sudanese people, and their history is bright and well-known in the unity of the country. Darfur is a red line, and we will not allow anyone to turn it into a state within a state. These calls are nothing but illusions promoted by some parties aiming to destabilize the country, and they do not represent the will of the Darfurians in any way. Anyone who thinks they can separate Darfur from Sudan is deluded, as the blood that has been shed in Darfur has always been in the name of preserving the unity of this country.

Some see the establishment of a “foundational” government in Nyala and reports of it issuing passports and parallel currency as actual steps towards division; how does the government intend to confront this?

What is happening in Nyala is not a product of the Rapid Support Forces’ imagination; rather, it is external impositions aimed at tearing apart the unity of Sudan. These attempts are desperate and doomed to fail. The legitimate government, represented by the Sovereignty Council, the Armed Forces, and the Council of Ministers, has clear plans to regain every inch of Sudan’s territory, and we will not allow anyone to divide the country.

The future will be better, and victory is near, God willing. What is happening in Nyala is a desperate attempt to gain legitimacy by exploiting the suffering of civilians.

How do you respond to those who believe that the Libyan model is applicable in Darfur?

The Libyan model is not suitable for application in Sudan; Sudan is not Libya, and Darfur is not Benghazi or Tripoli. The experience in Libya was a disaster for the Libyan people, achieving nothing but chaos and destruction. We reject any attempt to replicate this failed model and affirm that Darfur will remain an inseparable part of Sudan, no matter the sacrifices required.

The Darfurians themselves reject this model and are ready to defend the unity of their country. Anyone attempting to apply the Libyan model in Darfur does not read history well; Libya has not witnessed stability since its division, but has turned into a bloody battleground.

In February, the UN fact-finding mission concluded that the practices of the Rapid Support Forces in Al-Fasher amount to “genocide.” On June 23, the UN Security Council imposed sanctions on four leaders of these forces. How do you view these international descriptions? Do you believe they will change the international community’s stance on the war in Darfur?

What was mentioned in the UN reports is not new to those who know the reality of what is happening in Darfur; the Rapid Support Forces have committed and continue to commit the most heinous forms of violations against civilians, as confirmed by international reports.

The sanctions imposed by the Security Council are a step in the right direction, but they are insufficient. We call on the international community to take more stringent measures against the militia leaders. The crimes committed in Darfur are no less horrific than any war crimes witnessed globally, and those responsible from the Rapid Support Forces must be held accountable.

A formal memorandum submitted by the Sudanese government to the UN on June 13 revealed the detention of more than 21,000 detainees in the Daqris and Shala prisons under conditions described as “catastrophic,” including systematic torture and denial of medical treatment, along with reports of human organ trafficking. What is your stance on these reports, and do you have plans to free these detainees after the war?

What is happening in the prisons of the Rapid Support Forces is a complete crime; the detention of tens of thousands of civilians in inhumane conditions, torturing them, denying them their most basic rights, and even trafficking their organs, places the Rapid Support Forces among terrorist groups.

The Sudanese government has a complete file on these violations and will work to document them in preparation for prosecuting those responsible. The liberation of these detainees is one of our priorities, and we will work on that, as well as opening an independent investigation into all the violations that occurred in these prisons.

A UN report in June also documented 546 incidents of sexual violence related to the conflict, and reports spoke of systematic ethnic targeting, particularly against certain components. How is the government addressing these crimes, and will there be trials for those involved after the war?

These figures documented by the UN are part of a larger tragedy; rape and sexual violence have been used by the Rapid Support Forces as a weapon of war to humiliate communities and dismantle the social fabric. This is not just random violence; it is a systematic policy aimed at destroying human dignity in Darfur.

The Sudanese government is determined to hold accountable everyone involved in these crimes, and we will not allow these violations to go unpunished. Transitional justice will be one of the most important files in the post-war phase, and we will work with the international community to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.

What about the ongoing military operations on the ground?

The Armed Forces and the joint forces are currently conducting extensive military operations on various fronts, aiming to break the bones of the Rapid Support Forces and drive them out of their strongholds in the region. The joint forces know how to fight the militia, characterized by agility, rapid movement, and encirclement. The results have already begun to show, and we will continue to exert pressure until we achieve our full objectives. The war will not stop until every inch of Darfur is liberated and the displaced return to their homes.

Tell us about the latest field developments in West Darfur; what are the most significant achievements made by the army and the joint forces in recent days?

In the past few days, the Sudanese army and the joint forces have made significant field progress in West Darfur, regaining control over several strategic areas that were under the control of the Rapid Support Forces, in a development that redraws the map of the conflict in the region.

In North Darfur, our forces executed precise qualitative operations in the Abu Qumra area, inflicting heavy losses on the militia in terms of lives and equipment, and managed to liberate it completely. The forces also regained control over other areas in the Karnoi locality, as part of a broader strategy to secure the border areas with Chad.

In West Darfur, the biggest battle occurred in the strategic city of Kulbus, located about 160 kilometers north of Geneina. Intense battles took place, during which our forces managed to establish full control over the city and locality, after the Rapid Support Forces suffered significant losses in lives and equipment.

Our forces continue to advance on various fronts in a move aimed at tightening the noose around the last strongholds of the Rapid Support Forces in the region.

During the period from June 15 to 30, our forces destroyed many combat vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support Forces, in addition to downing a strategic drone. These field achievements confirm that the Armed Forces and the joint forces are steadfastly and determinedly moving forward until the militia is defeated and all parts of the homeland are secured.

After the war ends, what will the shape of the Sudanese Armed Forces be?

The Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan stipulates that there should be one army in the country, and this is what we are working towards. The joint forces are moving in this direction, and this approach will soon be completed. There is no place for any armed forces outside the regular military institution. This is the only way to ensure the stability and unity of the country.

The head of the Sovereignty Council called for an inclusive Sudanese dialogue; what guarantees can the council provide to ensure the success of this dialogue?

The call for an inclusive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue is a proposal from the top of the state hierarchy, and the Transitional Sovereignty Council is keen on the success of this dialogue. All necessary arrangements and guarantees will be provided to ensure the success of the process. Dialogue is the only way to overcome the current crisis and build a bright future for Sudan, and we extend our hands to everyone who wants good for this country.

A final word you would like to address to the Sudanese people and specifically to the people of Darfur.

I say to the Sudanese people and our people in Darfur: Trust that victory is near, and that your state will not abandon you. We will do everything in our power to restore security and stability in every inch of Sudan.

Unity is our destiny, and division will not happen. Darfur is a red line, and we will not allow anyone to cross it. Sudan will remain one and united, despite all the conspiracies being plotted against it.

Find more news and analyses on Africa on the Africa Press website

Africa-Press.
