Africa-Press. <\/strong> <\/span>After days of the Sudanese army and its supporting forces reclaiming significant areas in the North Kordofan axis, the extent of the advanced weapons and military equipment left behind by the Rapid Support Forces on the export road axis is revealed, reflecting the logistical support they were receiving both on land and from the air from outside the country.<\/p>\nThe Sudanese army announced last Sunday the recovery of the cities of Bara, Jabra Al-Sheikh, Umm Sayala, Umm Qirfa, and Jirijikh in North Kordofan after fierce battles with the Rapid Support Forces, confirming heavy losses in lives and equipment, and seizing dozens of combat vehicles and large quantities of military supplies.<\/p>\n
Missile and Drone Warehouses<\/b><\/p>\n
Military sources reveal that the Rapid Support Forces, “after being crushed” on the export road axis, left behind several warehouses. In the city of Jabra Al-Sheikh, missiles, drones, air defense systems, communication devices, jamming equipment, armored combat vehicles, and large quantities of heavy and light weapons were found.<\/p>\n
The military sources, who requested anonymity, indicate that most of these weapons reached the Rapid Support Forces during previous periods from bases and airports in southern and eastern Libya, especially overland through the border triangle between Sudan, Libya, and Egypt, before the army imposed air surveillance over the triangle and destroyed several military convoys and aircraft at Nyala Airport in Darfur, which received military cargo planes.<\/p>\n
According to the same sources, military support through Libya has not stopped, but after monitoring the border triangle and carrying out preemptive strikes that disrupted and delayed military shipments coming through open desert routes, it forced support networks to change their routes and use longer and more dangerous paths.<\/p>\n
A report by the United Nations last April revealed a complex logistical and military support network across Libyan territory for the benefit of the Rapid Support Forces, which included the transport of “mercenary” fighters from Colombia and weapons and equipment across border areas.<\/p>\n
Disruption of Supply<\/b><\/p>\n
UN experts reported that the “Paths of Peace” battalion, which was part of the Libyan National Army led by retired General Khalifa Haftar, played a pivotal role in these operations starting from the city of Kufra in southern Libya.<\/p>\n
In a move that reinforced Sudanese accusations, a platform close to the army stated that Libyan fighters were captured inside Sudanese territory last year; the regular forces captured elements belonging to what is known as the “Paths of Peace – Salafi Madkhali” battalion.<\/p>\n
Among those detained, according to the platform, was Islam Gaith Abdul Hamid, who provided documented confessions confirming their crossing of the shared border and engagement with Sudanese forces.<\/p>\n
Officials in eastern Libya deny these accusations, describing them as “media and propaganda campaigns” aimed at tarnishing the image of Libyan forces, asserting their non-interference in Sudan’s internal affairs.<\/p>\n
Alternative Routes<\/b><\/p>\n
Military affairs researcher Amin Mohammed Al-Tayeb believes that the Sudanese air force and its drones have succeeded in delivering painful strikes to several supply convoys and sites in the border desert, weakening and disrupting the supply lines of the Rapid Support Forces from Libya, although this has not completely ended them due to the open desert nature of the borders.<\/p>\n
In an interview, Al-Tayeb believes that despite the losses sustained by the convoys, the vast geographical extension of the desert strip and the open borders make the complete severance of supply and smuggling lines extremely difficult, as the Rapid Support Forces rely on local and cross-border smuggling networks experienced in desert navigation.<\/p>\n
However, tightening the grip on logistical supplies from Libya, as the military researcher states, has forced the Rapid Support Forces to change their supply lines and rely more on the longer Chadian route instead of the direct Libyan route.<\/p>\n
He adds that the new route through Chad takes on a “twisted smuggling” nature, which is geographically longer (1900 kilometers) and logistically more complicated, causing delays in the arrival of vital supplies (such as heavy ammunition, fuel, and spare parts) to the main battle fronts in Darfur and Kordofan, which directly impacts the pace of military activity and disrupts operational plans.<\/p>\n
Al-Tayeb points out that authorities in eastern Libya and areas under the influence of the “Libyan National Army” have received increasing regional and international warnings and pressures to close southern ports and airports to military support shipments, leading to a decline or disruption in the regular flow of supplies to Darfur.<\/p>\n
Support Without Superiority<\/b><\/p>\n
Observers and experts believe that the Rapid Support Forces have not been able to exploit the large quantities of weapons and military equipment during the previous phase to achieve a military transformation and superiority.<\/p>\n
They suggest that the advanced weapons left behind by the Rapid Support Forces in Jabra Al-Sheikh and the export road axis in North Kordofan were not intended for operations in Kordofan but rather a plan to threaten Khartoum and the White Nile state.<\/p>\n
International relations and military affairs specialist Amer Hassan believes that “the connection of the Rapid Support Forces to a fragmentation agenda in Sudan is supported by all indicators of events before and after the outbreak of war in 2023.”<\/p>\n
Hassan states that the inability of the Rapid Support Forces to benefit from the advanced weapons provided by regional powers is due to several reasons, the most prominent being:<\/p>\n
The destruction of the hard power of these forces in battles in Khartoum and central Sudan states, which was trained and developed by the Sudanese army from the establishment of the Rapid Support Forces in 2013 until 2020.<\/p>\n
With the disappearance of these qualified elements, skilled personnel in using advanced weapons and equipment have vanished, while the number of untrained mercenaries recruited on tribal bases or through financial mercenarism from within Sudan and neighboring countries has increased.<\/p>\n
The complete separation of the Rapid Support Forces from training and qualification bases that prepare fighters for future missions according to the available weaponry.<\/p>\n
Hassan expects the continued flow of supplies and more advanced weapons “but they will fall into the hands of the army, which is achieving victories based on military thought, inherited field experience, and ongoing training environments at all levels.”<\/p>\n
He also notes the weakness of the intelligence capabilities of regional powers “that accepted to play the role of contractor and financier for a foreign project in Sudan,” and the provision of advanced weapons in the absence of a comprehensive training system.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the purchase of modern weapons and the mobilization of advanced equipment did not grant the Rapid Support Forces victory in battles, given the lack of legitimacy of the war and the absence of combat ethics, according to the military affairs specialist.<\/p>\n
