Africa-Press – Eritrea. Egypt coach Rui Vitoria has downplayed Mohamed Salah’s injury after the Liverpool forward was subbed off in the first half with a suspected knee injury.
A visibly disgusted Salah saw his team salvage a point in the 2-2 draw against Ghana in their second match of the Africa Cup of Nations in a late Thursday night showdown in Cote d’Ivoire as the Egyptians remain winless in group B.
The Pharaos mastered the same scoreline against Mozambique in their opening match.
The injury will be a concern to both the North Africans, who were runners-up at the 2021 Afcon, and Liverpool given the 31-year-old’s central role in their Premier League title challenge.
“We don’t know yet what is the problem. I hope it is not a big problem. “Now, I don’t know because it is early to see something. I think it is not dangerous but let’s see if Salah recovers,” Vitoria said.
West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus grabbed a double for the Black Stars while Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed were on the scoresheet for Egypt who face Cape Verde in their last group match.
Cape Verde will secure top spot in Group B if the islanders beat Mozambique on Tuesday, with both Egypt and Ghana waiting to find out what they will require from the final round of games on Monday.
