Africa-Press – Eritrea. Athletics Kenya have earmarked March 5 and 6 as the new dates for the national trials for the African Games.
The trials were originally scheduled for February 16-17 but were postponed in honour of the late world marathon record holder, Kelvin Kiptum, who passed away on February 11.
Kiptum died in a car accident together with his Rwandese coach Gervais Hakizimana.
Kiptum will be buried on Friday while Hakizimana’s burial was set for Wednesday.
In a statement, AK said: “The event will be held on March 5 and 6 at the Nyayo Stadium. AK will select a team to represent the country at the African Games in Accra, Ghana.”
The African Games is set for March 8-23.
The national cross country championships have also been rescheduled for March 2 at the Kenya Prisons Staff Training College in Ruiru.
The event will be used to select the team for the World Athletics Cross Country championships in Belgrade, Serbia, slated for March 30.
