International Women’s Day Celebrated in Southern Region

Africa-Press – Eritrea. Mendefera, 8 March 2024 – The Southern Region marked International Women’s Day, 8 March, in Halhale with members of the Livestock and Crops Corporation at the regional level, under the theme “Equality: Our Core Principle.”

Ms. Senait Afwerki, the head of the union branch in the Southern Region, spoke about the resilience and unity of the Eritrean people, which have been pivotal in securing national independence and thwarting various external hostilities post-independence. She highlighted the significant contributions of Eritrean women in the struggle for independence, the preservation of national sovereignty, and their active participation in national affairs, acknowledging their rightful place in the nation’s history.

Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, the Governor of the Southern Region, emphasized the crucial role and contributions of Eritrean women at different stages of the nation’s development. He called for a renewed effort to transfer these noble values to future generations.

Mr. Frewengel Teklehaimanot, administrator of the Dubarwa sub-zone, and Maj. Kibreab Abraham, head of the Livestock and Crops Corporation, praised the involvement of women in various national sectors. They both urged for an increased participation of women to achieve better outcomes.

Additionally, the National Union of Eritrean Women’s branch in the Southern Region demonstrated its support by providing financial assistance to families in need and rewarding exemplary students in academics and sports.
