Africa-Press – Eritrea. FIFA announced on Friday that the main innovations in this year’s Club World Cup in the United States will include referees wearing body cameras and an improved offside detection technology.
Match officials will wear body cameras throughout a FIFA competition for the first time, and viewers will be able to watch a selection of the footage live.
To expedite decision-making while preserving VAR oversight for marginal rulings, a new, sophisticated form of semi-automated offside technology will be implemented, combining artificial intelligence, several cameras, and ball sensors.
“However, for challenging offside scenarios, the video assistant referee will still validate the information provided by the system before the decision is taken,” FIFA said in a statement.
This year’s event, which now has 32 teams, will be a significant testing ground for both systems, according to the governing body.
