Africa-Press – Eritrea. Various programs in connection with Martyrs Day, 20 June, have been conducted in Asmara from 16 to 18 June.

Accordingly, members of the Cooperative Association of the First Round of the National Service and the Taxi Owners Association organized commemorative programs featuring a walkathon and cultural presentations at Mai-Diminet in remembrance of martyrs.

Speaking at the event organized by the Cooperative Association of the First Round of the National Service, Gen. Filipos Woldeyohannes, Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Defense Forces, commended the association for going beyond tree planting by nurturing competent youth in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Central Region branch.

At the event organized by the Taxi Owners Association, Col. Kinfe Habtom, head of the Forestry and Wildlife Authority, expressed hope that the association’s activities would expand to other institutions.

In the same vein, members of the Ministry of Health branch in the Central Region distributed 1,500 Nakfa each to 60 families of martyrs, and members of the Ferovia Customs Office extended 1,000 Nakfa each to 17 families of martyrs.

Members of the Ministry of Information and the PFDJ branch in the Central Region also organized a commemorative event on 17 June, featuring cultural and artistic programs in honor of the martyrs.
