Toyota to Produce New Electric Vehicle in Europe

Africa-Press – Eritrea. Japanese auto giant Toyota announced Wednesday that it will produce its new battery electric vehicle (BEV) at its factory in Czechia.

According to a statement, the company will begin production of its new all-electric model at its factory in Kolin, Czechia. It will be the company’s first electric vehicle to be produced in Europe.

Toyota will invest approximately €680 million ($783.9 million) in the facility for the production of the new EV.

The facility will be expanded from 152,000 square meters to 173,000 square meters to accommodate new vehicle and battery production, as well as new paint and welding shops.

The factory, which produces approximately 220,000 Aygo X and Yaris Hybrid models annually, will increase its multifaceted production capacity with the launch of electric vehicle production. The new investment will also contribute to employment.

Toyota’s production journey in the Czech Republic began over two decades ago. Having produced more than 4.5 million vehicles to date, the facility began operations in 2002 with Aygo production. The facility, which became fully owned by the company in 2021, currently employs approximately 3,200 people.

“For Toyota, this decision signals a further roll-out of its multi-pathway strategy designed to achieve its objective of carbon neutral operations in Europe by 2040,” the statement said.
