Africa-Press – Eritrea. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) filed a formal complaint Tuesday against former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik over repeated public accusations of cheating against two fellow grandmasters.
The complaint, submitted to FIDE’s Ethics & Disciplinary Commission, names Kramnik as the respondent and cites a pattern of conduct over roughly two years involving American GM Daniel Naroditsky and Czech GM David Navara.
Naroditsky, the 2013 World Junior Champion and chess commentator, died at age 29 on Oct. 20; the cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Kramnik previously accused Naroditsky of cheating last year and continued sharing suspicions on social media, though Naroditsky has denied the allegations.
FIDE said the complaint addresses potential violations involving harassment and the insulting of an individual’s dignity.
In a statement, Yolander Persaud, chairwoman of the commission, said if the complaint is accepted Kramnik will have up to three weeks to respond. After reviewing all evidence, the panel will deliberate and issue a decision, which could include sanctions.
