Africa-Press – Eritrea. The 7th African Union-European Union Summit resumed works on Tuesday, the last day of the meeting, under the guidance of the chairperson of the African Union, João Lourenço, and the President of the European Council, António Costa.
The thematic session, which is being held behind closed doors, focuses on the areas of “Prosperity and People” and “Migration and Mobility,” matters that are on the official agenda.
The program includes speeches by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, in addition to the presentation of the Business Declaration and communications from the Youth and Civil Society Forum.
It marks 25 years of AU-EU partnership and coincides with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence.
Taking place under the motto “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism”, the event reaffirms the political commitment of both blocs to strengthen a balanced partnership, focusing on sustainable development, trade, mobility, investment and regional stability.
Ultimately, the leaders are expected to adopt the Declaration of the 7th AU-EU Summit. A press conference will be held afterwards, co-chaired by João Lourenço, António Costa, Ursula von der Leyen, and Mahamoud Ali Youssouf. The results of the meeting will be presented during the conference.
The last AU-EU Summit took place in February 2022 in Brussels, where the parties consolidated a shared vision for a renewed partnership.
The Luanda meeting continues this process and reiterates the conclusions of the Ministerial Meeting of May 2025, which reinforced the determination to deepen bilateral ties, based on common values, converging interests and a sustainable growth agenda for both continents.
