Africa-Press – Eritrea. At an activity assessment meeting conducted by the Northern Red Sea Region administration on 16 and 17 December in the port city of Massawa, it was reported that strong efforts will be exerted on projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the public.
According to the report presented at the meeting, over 30 thousand cubic meters of water catchment schemes have been renovated in the sub-zones of Massawa, Ghinda, Foro, Afabet, and Sheib.
The report further noted that the construction of Tsabra Dam, which is expected to hold half a million cubic meters of water, has reached 75 percent, while the construction of Ketina Dam, with a holding capacity of 150 thousand cubic meters, has been finalized.
Regarding the health sector, the report indicated that vaccination for hepatitis has been introduced, and cataract surgery, conducted in collaboration with the Albeser Ophthalmologist Group, has been performed on 767 citizens in the sub-zones of Massawa, Ghinda, and Afabet.
In the education sector, the report noted that the number of students scoring passing marks in the 8th grade national examination has increased by 20 percent, and that the construction of pre-schools to accommodate about 25 thousand children is progressing well.
Ms. Asmeret Abraha, Governor of the region, said that due attention will be given to the construction of reservoirs and to water and soil conservation activities through strong participation of the public and members of the Defense Forces.
