Africa-Press – Eritrea. The official ceremony marking the 36th anniversary of Operation Fenkil was conducted today, 14 February, with great enthusiasm under the theme “Heroic Fenkil Operation: Heritage for Generations” at the seashore of the port city of Massawa.

The official ceremony, which was broadcast live by Eritrean Television and Radio Dimtsi Hafash, was conducted in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Ministers, Government and PFDJ officials, Army commanders, religious leaders, as well as a number of nationals.

Ms. Asmeret Abraha, Governor of the Northern Red Sea Region, stated that the history of Operation Fenkil is a history of heroism, resolve, and perseverance of the Eritrean people and freedom fighters that will be remembered by future generations.

Ms. Asmeret further stated that the national development programs being carried out in coordination with the public, members of the Defense Forces, construction companies, and other stakeholders, along with active and conscious public participation for the successful implementation of development programs based on the pillars of social justice, constitute the main message of the commemoration event.

The commemorative event featured a display of Fast Patrol Boats operated by female members of the Eritrean Naval Force, as well as cultural and artistic performances depicting the history of Operation Fenkil, praising the Eritrean people and freedom fighters, conveying messages to adversaries, and encouraging support for disadvantaged citizens and families of martyrs.

The 36th anniversary commemoration of Operation Fenkil features a variety of activities, including Youth Week organized in collaboration with the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students, sports competitions, photo exhibitions, general knowledge contests, children’s programs, the Fenkil Award ceremony, seminars, and community gatherings.
