Africa-Press<\/a> – Eritrea<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>As we mark the International Youth Day 2021, UNDP re- reaf\u00adfirms the strong partnership and the importance it attaches to the Government- led programmes on youth empowerment in Eritrea. The IYD 2021 being held under the theme Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health re\u00adinforces the critical role played by the industrious youth of this country to drive the national transformation agenda. For this reason, UNDP is strategically po\u00adsitioned and relentlessly working closely with the Government of the State of Eritrea to contribute to promote the empowerment of the youth women by investing in digital innovation, skills develop\u00adment, youth entrepreneurship and business co-creation.<\/p>\n

UNDP partnership with Na\u00adtional Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS) is tai\u00adlored on the imperative of Leav\u00ading No One Behind (LNOB) and aim at ensuring that the youth are informed, engaged, and empow\u00adered to contribute to sustainable human development and resil\u00adience of their communities. A good example of this partnership is the UNDP Youth Employment and Skills Development project was first initiated in 2007 in part\u00adnership with the NUEYS and oth\u00ader stakeholders with the objective of creating tangible and practical skills development initiatives and employment opportunities for the youth. Fully designed to develop youth skills and capabilities by attaching selected vulnerable young men and women beneficia\u00adries with small metal and wood\u00adwork establishments, the project was implemented successfully in Keren, Anseba Region and then expanded to Barentu, the Gash Barka and eventually to all the remaining regions.<\/p>\n

As part of the UNDP\u2019s en\u00adtrepreneurship programs and skills development interven\u00adtions in the country, to -date UNDP works in cooperation with the NCEW, NUEYS, NUEW, and the lo\u00adcal administrations in creating opportunities and a more enabling environment for young people to pur\u00adsue their aspirations in the country, focusing mainly on expanding economic opportuni\u00adties for youths in Er\u00aditrea.<\/p>\n

For UNDP, the full involvement and en\u00adgagement of young men and women in the development path of the country are vital to achiev\u00ading sustainable human develop\u00adment. This support has also been facilitated through our partner\u00adship with sister Agencies such as UNICEF, UNFPA and our main bilateral partners- Norway and Switzerland.<\/p>\n

Importantly, UNDP acknowl\u00adedges the Government of Er\u00aditrea\u2019s incredible support in help\u00ading the organization deliver on its mandate by making a significant contribution to Eritrea`s efforts of advancing its national devel\u00adopment aspirations and achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.<\/p>\n
