{"id":16393,"date":"2023-04-26T11:01:36","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T11:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\/all-news\/eu-agrees-on-new-law-requiring-use-of-sustainable-fuels-in-aviation"},"modified":"2023-04-26T11:17:08","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T11:17:08","slug":"eu-agrees-on-new-law-requiring-use-of-sustainable-fuels-in-aviation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\/all-news\/eu-agrees-on-new-law-requiring-use-of-sustainable-fuels-in-aviation","title":{"rendered":"EU agrees on new law requiring use of sustainable fuels in aviation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Eritrea. <\/strong><\/span>EU institutions agreed late Tuesday on a new law obliging the aviation industry to use more sustainable fuels from 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission welcomed on Wednesday in a statement that the negotiators of the European Parliament and the Council of the EU reached an agreement on its proposal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new rules will help decarbonize the aviation sector by requiring fuel suppliers to blend sustainable aviation fuels with kerosene in increasing amounts from 2025,\u201d the European Commission said.<\/p>\n<p>Aviation fuel suppliers will be bound to blend in at least 2% of sustainable fuel to kerosene, and gradually increase its proportion to 70% by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>The law will also demand aircraft operators change their tanking practices and only load the necessary amount for the flight before departure at airports to avoid extra emissions.<\/p>\n<p>The European Parliament and the Council of the EU have yet to officially adopt the legislation but it will only be a formality after their agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation is the last part of the EU\u2019s main climate action package called \u201cFit for 55,\u201d which aims to reduce the bloc\u2019s greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\">Eritrea<\/a> Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Eritrea.
