Africa-Press – Eritrea. <\/strong><\/span>At least 20 heads of state have so far confirmed their attendance at the Africa Climate Change Summit in early September.<\/p>\n

Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuiya also disclosed 18,500 participants from across the globe had been registered and accredited by Monday.<\/p>\n

Addressing the press Monday, Tuiya said they are expecting the number of guests to increase ahead of the event which starts September 4.<\/p>\n

The forum is convened by President William Ruto in his capacity as the coordinator of all African heads of state on climate change within the African Union (AU).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe summit is co-convened by Kenya and the AU and this being an African summit it is global. We have invitations from across the World because the main thing that we are proposing is global climate action solutions,\u201d Tuya.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting seeks to profile Africa as part of the solution to the climate crisis, for a long time we have been disadvantaged since we contribute the least to pollution and greenhouse gas emissions but suffer the most.\u201d<\/p>\n

The upcoming conference, Ruto said, is a collective step towards achieving climate-positive growth and a platform to maximize opportunities for African-led climate solutions.<\/p>\n

The head of state is championing efforts for climate change adaptation and has called on Africa to make concerted pains to win the war noting the continent is disproportionately affected by its adverse impacts.<\/p>\n

He noted that institutional reconfigurations and economic resets emanating from this change will install Africa as the world\u2019s green economic superpower.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough climate change is a universal existential threat, there is good reason for Africa\u2019s institutions and leadership to drive the agenda of mitigating its effects,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
