Africa-Press – Eritrea. <\/strong><\/span>The Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe is expected to announce the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and 2027 hosts on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The announcement will be made immediately after a Caf executive meeting at the continental football governing body’s headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

CAF had awarded Guinea the rights to host the 2025 edition of the biannual tournament in October last year but stripped the West African nation of the rights due to lack of adequate infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The deadline for declarations of interest to host Africa’s premier competition was extended to April this year.<\/p>\n

CAF said they had received bids from Algeria, Morocco, and Zambia, plus a co-hosting bid from Benin and Nigeria, for the 2025 finals.<\/p>\n

The 2027 finals have gotten bids from Algeria, Botswana, and Egypt and a joint bid from East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania titled \u2018Pamoja Bid\u2019.<\/p>\n

Kenya once won the right to stage the finals in 1996 but missed the opportunity since the stadia in the country did not meet CAF requirements.<\/p>\n

Uganda has no approved stadium after the Namboole Stadium was blacklisted in 2020 for not meeting the standards.<\/p>\n

The 60,000-seater Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam is the only Caf-approved facility in East Africa.<\/p>\n

The Pamoja bid had fronted Benjamin Mpaka, Namboole, and Moi Stadium, Kasarani as the main host venues for the matches.<\/p>\n

Kenya have begun renovation of their stadia in the hope that the joint bid will be accepted.<\/p>\n

Uganda have also begun their preparations ahead of the AFCON 2027 by renovating some stadia.<\/p>\n

Uganda’s 35,000-seater Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala is undergoing refurbishment.<\/p>\n

St Mary’s Stadium, a 15,000-seater, is under massive renovation as per FUFA (Federation of Uganda Football) executive member Rogers Mulindwa.<\/p>\n

Tanzania will carry out renovations of the Chamanzi Complex (10,000 seater), CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza (35,000 seater), Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga (15,000 seater) and Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma (20,000 seater).<\/p>\n

Algeria and Morocco are the top two contenders to host nation the 2025 edition but Algeria also have their eyes on the 2027 edition.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Pamoja bid\u2019 may have a hard time dealing with Algeria due to the North African country’s superior infrastructure.<\/p>\n
