Africa-Press – Eritrea. <\/strong><\/span>Each year, on November 20th, the world unites to celebrate World Children\u2019s Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the rights, well-being, and potential of every child. This significant occasion marks the anniversary of two landmark documents that enshrined the fundamental rights of children globally \u2013 the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified in 1989.<\/p>\n

The day serves as a powerful reminder of the unwavering commitment to ensuring that all children, regardless of their background or circumstances, are afforded the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of children, to advocate for their rights, and to reaffirm our collective responsibility to create a brighter future for them.<\/p>\n

The idea of a World Children\u2019s Day was first proposed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 1925. The ILO was concerned about the plight of children who were being forced into labor and were not receiving an education.<\/p>\n

In 1954, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming Universal Children\u2019s Day. The date of November 20th was chosen to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.<\/p>\n

Since 1990, World Children\u2019s Day also marks the anniversary of the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in making World Children\u2019s Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations.<\/p>\n

World Children\u2019s Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children\u2019s rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children.<\/p>\n

The World Children\u2019s Day serves as an opportunity for people in all professions to raise awareness about child rights and their welfare. It brings an opportunity to delve deep into small choices people can make for the younger generation.<\/p>\n

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in adding meaning to World Children\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n
