Africa-Press – Eritrea. <\/strong><\/span>UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met Brazilian President Lula da Silva on Saturday on the margins of a G20 summit in Rio to discuss global collaboration on climate action and multilateral reforms, according to UN News.<\/p>\n

The leaders discussed strengthening multilateralism, reforming international financial structures and implementing urgent climate measures, it said.<\/p>\n

Both stressed the need for enhanced commitments to ensure the success of COP29 and COP30 and global targets align with limiting warming to 1.5 C.<\/p>\n

Guterres praised Brazil’s contributions to global priorities, while Lula proposed a Social G20 to include civil society and social movements at future summits.<\/p>\n

Brazil will host the G20 summit in Rio on Nov. 18 – 19, under the theme: “Construction of a just world and a sustainable planet,” bringing together leaders from 19 major economies, the EU and the African Union.<\/p>\n
