{"id":48392,"date":"2025-07-22T20:33:46","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T20:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\/all-news\/microsoft-partners-with-french-firm-for-notre-dame-twin"},"modified":"2025-07-22T20:58:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T20:58:19","slug":"microsoft-partners-with-french-firm-for-notre-dame-twin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\/all-news\/microsoft-partners-with-french-firm-for-notre-dame-twin","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft Partners with French Firm for Notre Dame Twin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Eritrea. <\/strong><\/span><b>American firm Microsoft has partnered with France\u2019s culture minister and a local company to create a digital twin of the newly restored Notre Dame Cathedral.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The tech giant will provide <b>key AI assistance<\/b> to French start up Iconem, to help them stitch together hundreds of thousands of high resolution photos and build a replica of the cathedral that is expected to be made available to scientists and the public.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft and Iconem already worked together on a similar project in Rome with a digital twin for Saint Peter\u2019s Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;The technology allows us to see details that are hard to see when you visit the monument [&#8230;] At Saint Peter\u2019s, some mosaics are 120 metres above the ground&#8221;<\/b>, said Iconem co-founder and CEO Yves Ubelmann.<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;Thanks to the technology that we use, including image acquisition technology, we can see every detail, every part of these mosaics.\u201d<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This announcement comes as restoration work on the cathedral is approaching completion, <b>six years after the fire that devastated part of the monument.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The digital replica should be made available to scientists and the public.<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;It will create a tool for preservationists in the future, hundreds of years from now, because they\u2019ll be able to preserve the Cathedral with this detailed knowledge of what it looks like today&#8221;<\/b>, said Microsoft vice chair and president Brad Smith.<\/p>\n<p>The digital structure is also expected to be displayed in the future Notre Dame Museum, announced in 2023 by French President Emmanuel Macron.<\/p>\n<p>The convention signed by all parties at the French culture ministry on Monday states that Microsoft and Iconem will donate the digital masterpiece to the state of France.<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;This is the right time, this is the right project [&#8230;] to maintain this magical, wonderful asset for French society&#8221;<\/b>, Brad Smith said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Eritrea<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Eritrea.
