{"id":54303,"date":"2026-01-06T17:44:42","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T17:44:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\/all-news\/eritrea-to-compete-in-2027-afcon-qualifiers"},"modified":"2026-01-06T18:12:00","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T18:12:00","slug":"eritrea-to-compete-in-2027-afcon-qualifiers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/eritrea\/all-news\/eritrea-to-compete-in-2027-afcon-qualifiers","title":{"rendered":"Eritrea to Compete in 2027 AFCON Qualifiers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"ap-article-header-tag\"> <strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Eritrea. <\/strong> <\/span>The Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) has confirmed that the national team will participate in the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of nations (AFCON) qualifiers.<\/p>\n<p>Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam, President of ENFF confirmed to Cecafaonline during an interview on Tuesday at the Four Seasons Hotel in Rabat, Morocco.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u201cI can confirm that we have registered to play in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFCON and I believe we shall have a strong team because we currently have many players playing outside the African continent,\u201d <\/b>said Andemariam.<\/p>\n<p>Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the co-hosts for the 2027 AFCON are exempted from the qualifiers that are slated to start in March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Eritrea has not participated in several AFCOn and World Cup qualifiers in recent years. <b>\u201cWe have had positive discussions with the government and we are now prepared to take part in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers,\u201d<\/b> added Andemariam.<\/p>\n<p>The other teams from the CECAFA region that have already registered to participate in the qualifiers include; Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty one teams are expected to make it through the qualifiers that run till November this year to join co-hosts Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-article-footer-note\">Find more news and analyses on <span class=\"ap-highlight-country\">Eritrea<\/span> on the <span class=\"ap-highlight-brand\">Africa Press<\/span> website<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Eritrea.
