LAWYER SICELO MNGOMEZULU CONFIRMS: MP Mthandeni Dube risks being permanently blind after assault by warders

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sicelo Mngomezulu, the lawyer representing incarcerated pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) has confirmed that MP Mthandeni Dube risked being permanently blind after assault by Mswati’s warders.

“We can confirm that the MP is still suffering from the effects of the attack that happened last week. As the legal team and families there are concerns that the impact might be permanent, without us saying necessarily that he will be blind but the impact might be permanent or long-term, that’s the concern that we have. But he is continuing with receiving medical attention until such time that he fully recovers, of which, we hope, he will fully recover,” said the lawyer.

The press reported that the MP was secretly rushed to Mbabane Government Hospital and treated within the Eye-care Department.

MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube were attacked by warders within their cell after an order allegedly issued by King Mswati, the Correctional Services subsequently released a statement confirming that ‘minimum’ force was used on the MPs but denied that the order came from the authorities.
