Africa-Press – Eswatini. Sihlangu Semnikati will face Somalia in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 Qualifiers.
This follows the preliminary round draw of the next continent’s showpiece conducted yesterday in Cameroon. The two-legged ties will be played between March 21-29 as the nation’s pride will be looking to book a place in the next AFCON finals scheduled for next year in Ivory Coast.
Eswatini is ranked 146th overall in the FIFA Men’s rankings while their opponents Somalia is ranked 194th. Sihlangu head coach Dominic Kunene said the draw was fair but they would be cautious of their opponents.
“This is a fair draw for us but we will not underestimate the opposition despite the current rankings. We will not be complacent and get into our comfort zone, especially because we have never played them before.
We will do our research on the opponents as we prepare for the matches,” he said. The senior national side last finished in the bottom of their group in the previous qualifiers where they played against the likes of Senegal, Guinea Bissau and Congo Brazzaville.
