Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Commissioner General (ComGen) of His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) LaMakhosini Dlamini has implored warders and members of State security services to soldier on and uphold their oath of protecting and serving the nation.

The commissioner general was speaking in the wake of the targeting of law enforcers, with one of her officers brutally killed last week Wednesday.

Mike Menzi Mthethwa was abducted from his workstation at the Sidvwashini Correctional facility around midnight and was discovered dead in a forest at Ngwenya with gunshot wounds in the head and chest.

He is believed to have been disarmed of his service rifle (R4), kidnapped and subsequently shot after what was a brazen attempt to rob the correctional facility by four armed men, who included a warder, Wandile Gina who has now been reported as a person of interest by the police.

Although he was off-duty, Gina is alleged to have tried to assist the three masked men to gain entry into the facility, claiming that he had been sent to deliver a parcel for authorities.

However, he was reported by the institution to have since vanished into thin air after this incident, despite being in the vicinity on Wednesday night.

On the same night, a soldier by the name of Makhosini William Shongwe from Madelezini in Timpisini, who was stationed at Nkoyoyo Palace, was also executed at his home.

Capping a horrific week for the country, two police officers from the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) were earlier executed in broad daylight while on duty on Tuesday near Woodmasters behind Grand Valley.

The ComGen, who condemned the brutal killing of the warder, she on behalf of HMCS was conveying her condolences to the Mthethwa family and his colleagues for his sudden, yet gruesome demise.

She said as HMCS, they were shattered by the unfortunate incident.

Dlamini said Mthethwa’s death came at a time when everyone was expecting him to play a huge role in the development of the correctional department and in the protection of the nation.

She said as HMCS, they were alive to the fact that the country is currently facing a political crisis and therefore, she was urging the officers under HMCS and the other members of State security serviceS to soldier on and stand their ground.

She also urged them to uphold the oath they took of protecting and serving the nation.

“To the relatives of our departed officers, we pray that God would heal their wounds and give them strength to stand in these trying times,” she said.
