Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Home Economics Section has generated a total income of E1 950 182 during the second quarter of the 2022/2023 financial year.

This was under the Strategic Roadmap pillar called ease of doing business with the objective to promote food security and nutrition of households and income generation in the country. The statistics are contained in the ministry of agriculture’s second quarter performance report for the 2022/23 financial year.

The report mentioned that the farmers made this income by participating through the sale of different products as part of the training in income generation.

“The Home Economics section conducted nutrition education or promotion which covered a total of 1247 individuals benefited. This was achieved by conducting: three food displays for 153 participants, 32 online which were virtual sessions for 908 participants, 87 seminars with 1446 participants and 6 workshops for 227 participants,” read the report.

It was added that home management training was done through four meetings for 87 participants, 34 seminars for 340 participants and 139 home visits which benefited for 186 participants.

According to the report skills development training was conducted by having 18 seminars for 474 participants, 11 workshops for 195 participants, and 147 demonstration benefiting 952 individuals and the overall number of beneficiaries in the skills development training was 1729 individuals participants.

“Business management training was conducted through 15 seminars for 156 participants, food processing and preservation was done and a total of 1206 individuals benefiting,” said the report.

It was stated that this was achieved by conducting: 12 meetings for 431 participants, 49 seminars with 795 participants and 76 food processing and preservation demonstrations with an attendance of 880 participants and there were 133 method demonstrations conducted and 1301 farmers benefited from this activity.

“The target was to have at least 25 000 households trained in food and nutrition security as well as home improvement,” read the report.

The report indicated that 28 nutrition promotion radio broadcasts on the EBIS Siswati Channel were done and 38 nutrition promotion articles on the local print media were published.

“The restriction on fuel allocation and the general shortage of transport limited the number of activities including visits to farmers for purposes of imparting skills and information,” read the website.
