‘WE’RE WORKING TO RECOVER COVID-19 JOB LOSSES’

Africa-Press – Eswatini. His Majesty King Mswati III told Emaswati students based in the Republic of China (Taiwan) that COVID-19 created uncertainty and a difficult time for the country.

He said the pandemic saw thousands of people losing their jobs, life being tough resulting in government forced into a hiring freeze.

The King said with the pandemic now subsiding in the country and the world, the situation was improving.

“Those of you who have completed your studies are hoping to get opportunities and being employed when you get back home.

“We have taken it upon ourselves to go all out to look for investors and opportunities to create jobs.

We are happy that our engagements here in Taiwan both with the government and businesses went well as we were well received and there was keen interest to come and create job opportunities.

“We are sensitive to the fact that if people have no jobs and don’t earn a leaving, life becomes difficult and we start to experience unnecessary tensions and strife,” the King said.

The King said he was encouraged by the efforts made and the country is now banking its hopes on them as they return home to contribute to the development of the Kingdom.

“You are the country’s ambassadors here and you are also in a position to invite those you meet to come home to invest in the Kingdom and partner with them in the enterprises you have an interest in,” the King said.

His Majesty was informed by President Tsai Ing-wen that they were about 3 000 Emaswati students studying in Taiwan in various fields.

“We have received a good report from the president and her government of you here and are amazed at your good conduct and respect. They have told me that you are dedicated in everything you do. It thrilled us to get such a report. They gave us confidence that even though you are far from home, but assured us that they are also taking good care of you,” the King said.

The King said such words gave him the confidence to assure the students that even though they were far from home, they can trust and take Taiwan as their home away from home.

“To demonstrate their commitment to your growth, they informed me that they have since created a programme which will now allow you to be attached to their various industries to gain practical experience which will come in handy by the time you complete your studies and return home.

“We can only encourage you to make use of such exposure so that you can share such skills and experiences when you get back home. It is such skills that we require to advance and develop our country to First World Status as Taiwan is already there,” he said.

His Majesty the King appreciated the opportunity to have met part of the students as many were already taking their examinations.

“I am happy to have met you and had the opportunity to vusela and noted that many of you are still following what is happening at home by mentioning the changes in your communities since we only recently blessed new chiefs and you showed that you were up to date with the developments,” he said.

The King further told the students that Taiwan has shown interest in hiring Emaswati to help them improve their English Language. He said they have been impressed by their fluency in the way they speak the language.

“I can vouch for you in that regard as you speak the language so fluently and they would benefit as they desire to be bilingual by the Year 2030. Our accent is unique and can be confused with that of the British or Americans. That’s what impresses them.

I am also told that you are also not doing badly in mandarin, which is good,” the King said.

His Majesty the King wished them well and success in their studies.
