DENVER Sundowns ended Madlenya’s unbeaten run in the MTN Premier League with a 3-1 victory over the newcomers at Mayaluka Stadium yesterday evening.
The rookies were early pacesetters of their new campaign as they recorded two straight wins over Manzini Wanderers and fellow new comers Seven Dreams.
However, the Siphofaneni based side displayed a substandard performance against the determined hub side who were in search of their first win.
The home side took the lead in the first quarter when Sethu Ngcamphalala fluffed an opportunity at close range.
The visitors who had little to offer in attack in the opening minutes of the encounter nearly drew first blood a moment later when a Wandile Ntshakala’s shot was saved by Dumsani Dlamini between the goalposts.
The ‘Kappa Boys’ took the lead on the 29th minute through a sublime strike from Congolese international Mike Dombo which gave visitors a slender advantage going to the breather.
Madlenya made a positive start into the second half when they levelled matters three minutes into restart through a Senzo Shongwe strike from the edge of the box which beat Lwethu Simelane hands down.

William ‘Masondeza’ Gamedze’s joy with his troops was short-lived after they conceded an own goal in the 50 minutes mark through Mfundo Gamedze.
The home side created a scoring chance for winger Njabulo Maziya midway in the second half but Lwethu was equal to the task as he pulled a fingertip save deep into the last stanza.
The home side substituted their erratic goalkeeper Dumsani Dlamini for Mndeni Lukhele in the 74th minute and pushed more numbers upfront.
Ikabort Masocha’s men sealed their first win of the season with 10 minutes remaining on the clock with a well taken Mthokozisi Hlatshwako free kick.
