TRADE FAIR CUP RETURNS NEXT YEAR

Africa-Press – Eswatini. Fans should brace themselves for more football excitement next season as the historical Trade Fair Cup is set to make a sensational return to the football calendar.

The tournament was last staged nearly a decade ago back in 2013 and was sponsored by the then Swazi Telecoms.

This was revealed by the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya yesterday during the launch and Premiere of the Eswatini Football Show which will be aired on Supersport.

Next year’s competition returns after the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA) had confirmed.

The event was held at Esibayeni lodge and was graced by various dignitaries which included the Minister of Sports Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga and Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane.

“We are looking forward to staging the Trade Fair Cup after EIPA indicated that the tournament would be back next year. We are still working around the clock to secure a sponsor for the tournament and other competitions within our calendar,” he said.

The PLE recently secured a sponsorship deal from FinTech MTN for the MoMo Cup which features both Premier League and National First Division clubs.

The last winners of the Trade Fair Cup were Royal Leopard when they beat Malanti Chiefs 2 – 0 in the finals back in 2013.

Other winners of the prestigious competition include capital city giants Mbabane Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders, Manzini Wanderers, Denver Sundowns, Moneni Pirates and Green Mamba to name a few.

This will be the second cup competition to be played in the football calendar after the return of football activities due to the COVID -19 pandemic which saw a number of cup competitions suspended.
