Africa-Press – Eswatini. A thriller awaits football fans as giants Moneni Pirates and Mbabane Highlanders will face-off in this year’s MoMo Cup semi-final scheduled for Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.
The ‘Sea Robbers’ recently claimed the scalp of the capital city giants by 1-0 in the MTN Premier League meeting.
The highly anticipated match will kick-off at 11.30am with the Shiselweni derby between Nsingizini Hotspurs and Rangers opening proceedings at 9am.
This was revealed during the draw of the weekend fixtures for the inaugural competition which was conducted at Mahlalekhukhwini House in Ezulwini yesterday. The match between Nsingizini Hotspurs and Rangers recorded the most votes with 3 031 while the Moneni Pirates versus Mbabane Highlanders match got 110 votes.
The winners of the respective semis will face-off in the final later on the day at 4:30pm in pursuit of the E600 000 first prize carrot. Revealing the fixtures was Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenneth Makhanya following the results of the second phase voting exercise.
“The voting exercise has been completed and the fixtures for the semi-finals are out. We encourage all fans to make their way to the stadium and purchase their tickets on time.
“We would like to thank the sponsors and clubs for their patience after we had to postpone the fixtures last week and we look forward to the competition,” he said.
Makhanya also went on to urge fans and clubs to be at their best behaviour.
Meanwhile, MTN Fintech Manager Products and services Mcolisi Dlamini said the voting exercise had gone well and they excited to have reached this point in the competition.
“We would like to thank supporters and the PLE for embracing the competition, especially the supporters for supporting the whole exercise. We are looking forward to the competition and may the best team win the match,” he said.
