Africa-Press – Eswatini. New kids on the block, Nsingizini Hotspurs head coach Gerald Phiri has dedicated the inaugural MoMo Cup trophy to the team’s supporters.
This comes after his charges overcame Moneni Pirates 2-1 in the finals played yesterday at the Somhlolo National Stadium, taking home E600 000. “I’m so happy with the win. I dedicate the trophy to the supporters after they voted the team to the MoMo Cup. I would like to thank the players and president of the club for their support,” he said.
The Malawi-born coach said it was not easy to defeat Pirates since they were one-man down for prolonged stages of the match.
Meanwhile, the runner-up coach, Coaster Magongo, said they tried their best. “We tried our best. We conceded a silly penalty in the added time that saw us losing the match. All in all, nothing is lost. We will come back stronger and we have a team that compete in the league ,” he said.
The ‘sea robbers’ walked home with E350 000 for being runners-up of the inaugural tournament.
