Africa-Press – Eswatini. Young Buffaloes players and officials are lucky to be alive after their bus was shot at two times by unknown trigger-happy gunmen at Mehlwabovu hill near Nkwene in the Shiselweni region.

The army side was on its way back home after honouring an MTN Premier League game at King Sobhuza II Stadium in Nhlangano when this tragedy occurred. The game in question ended in a 1-all draw.

According to sources, the unknown gunmen shot at the army side’s bus twice, with the main target being the driver but missed. One of the eye-witnesses who asked not to be named, confided that after the shooting, the gunmen quickly ran into a gateway car that was strategically parked on the road side but the bus driver was brave enough to block the way for this mysterious car from escaping.

This left the occupants of the car in question rooted, as one of the people at the shooting scene is said to have quickly alerted the police who were conducting a roadblock 30 kilometres away from the scene.

Indeed, the law enforcers responded promptly as they were at the shooting scene in a blink of an eye and upon searching the car, the occupants were found in the possession of a pistol. Subsequently, they were detained by the police pending further investigations.

Good news

The good news is that there were no reported fatalities as the Buffaloes’ players and officials escaped unharmed.

The club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sandile Gwebu could only confirm that their bus was attacked as they were travelling back to the camp base from Nhlangano. He also asserted that through God’s grace, no one sustained an injury during the attack.

Meanwhile deputy PICO Inspector Nosipho Mnguni said they have been informally made aware of the incident, but they would communicate once they have gathered all the necessary information.
