Africa-Press – Eswatini. Local designer Carole Lubelo was awarded at the African Women Designers Week in Mozambique.
This was revealed by the designer.
She said the main objective of the event was to create awareness on the issue of violence faced by African women in the societies, along with women with disabilities in African societies, using the role of African Stylists and designers to promote this area through exchange of experiences, workshops, debate and exhibition.
This event, according to the designer was attended by designers from various African countries as well as artists from different cultural backgrounds and distinguished guests from African societies.
“We were representing the country and connecting with other designers from different countries,” she said.
The fashion was attended by more than five local designers and one designer was awarded.
Lubelo said they only chose one designer in each country. “Those designers that were awarded were chosen not voted for by the public.
The criteria they used to decide whom to give the award was based on how active a designer is with marketing their businesses via social media,” she said.
She also expressed her excitement and said this was her first international award.
“Winning this award means that we have to keep pushing towards doing better every day. This award was given to us a day before our seventh anniversary in the fashion industry, so we can say that God wanted us to celebrate our hard work in style. This award does not mean we are better than other creative minds out there.”
“Through our experience in the fashion industry we can advice upcoming fashion designers to do more sponsoring to help their brand get the exposure it needs. In business one has to spend money to make more. It’s all about investments.
We, as Norokarmali Studio (Dare To Be You) can advice people to join the association of fashion designers under arts and culture and must be willing to work hard to get their craft out there,” she said.
