Africa-Press – Eswatini. The old adage worked well for the two capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows as they conquered their different opponents in the MTN Premier League Y’ello Sunday double header played at Mavuso Sports Centre.
The first match saw Highlanders dig deep into their reserves to beat newcomers, who have been characterised to be giant slayers Nsingizini Hotspurs by 1-0, courtesy of a Philani Mkhontfo first half penalty.
The ‘Black Bull’ were given a run for their money by the gallant Shiselweni-based outfit, who are gradually earning the giant killing tag in the football fraternity with their spirited performance.
The Gerrard Phiri-led troops displayed no respect to the crowd-pullers for prolonged stages until their dignified loss.
Punished
The second match at the same venue proved to be a fast-flowing affair between Swallows and Moneni Pirates, who gave it their all against the experienced opposition.
Lack of experience in the squad haunted Pirates, as they were punished by the vigilant Mbabane Swallows deep into the last stanza through a Felix ‘ Fela’ Badenhorst strike.
Elsewhere, defending champions Royal Leopard recorded their first victory of the season after beating newcomers Seven Dreams 1-0 at Kalanga Stadium.
The first match at the same venue saw Green Mamba secure a 1-0 win over Tambankulu Callies.
