Africa-Press – Eswatini. Things are really falling apart at the Weslians!
Manzini Wanderers financial crisis seems to be far from over as E37 000 that was part of the recent MoMo Cup play-offs participation fee has reportedly gone missing.
The crowd-pulling side received E15 000 participation fee and E10 000 as they reached over 1 000 votes in the voting process.
They also got a share in the region of E12 000 from gate collections after the play- offs at Mavuso Sports Centre on July 30.
Information gathered is that all the team’s funds had allegedly been withdrawn. In fact, it has been discovered that a payment of E6 000 was withdrawn on Sunday by certain individuals who are close to the club.
“When our officials checked the balance in the MoMo account, they found a E0.00 balance. It’s still a mystery as to who withdrew the money. We will have to get to the bottom of the matter,” said the source.
Interim Director Steven Thwala confirmed the shocking discovery.
“It’s true that funds belonging to the team’s MoMo account went missing. We will launch an internal investigation into the matter,” he said.
Meanwhile, reports further suggest that the team had engaged in a sit in strike due to outstanding salaries.
A player who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity asserted to the latest yesterday.
“We last trained last week before the Leopard match.
This week we did go to Malkerns in the afternoons but couldn’t train due to money issues.
“We will continue to do this until they pay us. We might also not attend the Tambuti match,” said the player.
Meanwhile, Thwala said he was yet to learn about the boycott.
“I am not aware of any strike in the team.
All I know is that the team is training in readiness for the next match,” he said.
