Mavimbela announced that preparations towards this year’s state opening were at an advanced stage.
“This year’s ceremony will be held this Friday as endorsed by His Majesty King Mswati III.

Last Thursday, we had our first rehearsals followed by a meeting with all stakeholders involved. The final rehearsals and meeting will be this Wednesday (tomorrow) to ensure that everything goes according to plan,” he said.

He emphasised that all protocols prescribed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the country’s regulations in relation to the covid-19 pandemic would strictly be followed.
He emphasised that COVID-19 testing was a prerequisite for entry and health officials would be stationed outside the main gate of the Parliament building to conduct the tests where clearance certification and wrist bands will be issued.

“However, those who will have tested within 48 hours may bring their valid tests results as proof and will also be given wrist bands,” added Mavimbela.
He also insisted that cell phones would not be allowed inside Parliament and invited guests would be required to leave their cell phones in their cars.

Mavimbela also stated that pocket sanitisers would be given to all attendees as one of the health precautionary measures. Face masks other than surgical face masks are strictly prohibited.

He said members of the media who will be in the chambers, would be directed to their designated seats.
