Africa-Press – Eswatini. Nothando Dlamini was the star of the night on Saturday after she scooped the Best Gospel Song at the Eswatini Gospel Music Awards (EGMA) 2022 with her song ‘Wangihlawulela’.

Dlamini’s win comes after she held an epic night of praise and worship, last month at her ‘Atmosphere of Praise and Worship’, live CD and DVD recording, held at the Mbabane Alliance Church.

In last Fridays score board, Dlamini led with 3 938 votes under the category of Instacash Best Gospel Song category followed by Phiwokwakhe Dlamini ‘Ngihamba Nenkosi’.

The gospel artist when receiving the award thanked her husband, parents, children, her pastor Reverend Johannes Vuyisile Mazibuko and fellow church members for the continued support.

She further appreciated the Association of Christian Artists in Eswatini (ACESWA) and Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) citing that they should dare not neglect them as gospel artists.

The night dedicated the event to recognise the accomplishments of the Gospel recording industry in Eswatini by celebrating those groups and individuals who had excelled in the stipulated entry period was a success.

The event held at the Mavuso Trade Centre had nominees that went through a voting exercise and the pre-judging exercise under the categories, Best Gospel Artist, Best Gospel Song, Best Contemporary Gospel Song, Best Traditional Gospel Song and Gospel Artist of All Times.

The event started just after 7pm after gospel artists and attending fun-lovers walked through the blue carpet dressed to the nines.

The attendance was fair with hosts Mbali Simelane and Thamie ‘Pastor Bae’ Ndlovu keeping the crowd alive and preaching the end to Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Performances were nothing short of amazing from Fezile Matsebula, Nothando Dlamini, Londiwe Nxumalo, Phiwokwakhe Dlamini and many more.

ENCAC Chief Executive Officer, Stanley Dlamini during his key note speech, thanked sponsors, stakeholders and the artists. He referred to the award ceremony as ‘Night of the stars’.

The CEO congratulated all the award winners and non-award winners for excelling in their craft.

He stated that the Voice of the Church (VOC) radio would not be what it was today if it were not for the artists who released music continually.

While, ACESWA President, Phetsile Masilela said the award ceremony held to celebrate artists was a need after the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused financial strain and depression.

“After realising the continuous rise in GBV cases, we as artists decided to use the award ceremony to encourage artists as people who speak one language, one tribe and one nation to put an end to GBV. If people are not seeing eye to eye let there be talks, instead of violence,” she said.In ending, Dlamini asked that locals shall remain a peaceful nation.
