Africa-Press – Eswatini. About 50 children will have a cheerful Christmas after United States Embassy staff members and marines delivered gifts to them.

They donated toys benefitted children under the Toys for Tots programme at Nyonyane Neighbourhood Care Point at Ezulwini on Monday.

US Ambassador Jeanne Maloney said the programme talked a lot about the character of the marines.

She said marines were among the toughest people in the world, but they also had huge hearts and wanted to ensure that no child felt left behind or forgotten during the holidays.

She said since 1947, she noted that millions of children had received gifts through the Toys for Tots programme, which she said was enormous. She said they were proud that the US Embassy was able to support and put smiles on the faces of the children.

“Some of the gifts that the marines presented today were also donated by the US Embassy staff members as part of their Marine Toys for Tots.

“We are also bringing other gifts for the Nyonyane NCP.

“Our wish is to bring joy to you and joy for the Christmas season and to share a message of hope,” she said. Maloney added that the festive season was an important time to celebrate the contributions that teachers and school administrators made each and every day in the children’s lives.

She said they appreciated the teachers and school administrators, for fostering curiosity and creativity, building skills and confidence needed by the children for them to attain a future.

Adding, she said having great teachers was one of the most important resources they could provide to strengthen communities.

“In closing, on behalf of the US Embassy in Eswatini and the marines, we want to wish everyone of you a joyous festive season full of hope and peace,” she said.

The NCP Chairperson Maduma Nkambule appreciated the kind gesture by the US Embassy.

He said it was pleasing to see so many children beaming with joy as a result of the donation. Nkambule was echoed by his deputy, Thandi Tsabedze, who also noted that this was not the first time they were visited by the embassy staff.

“We are grateful to the American Embassy for visiting us today and for the donations made, which is not the first time. We are grateful for all the assistance received as an NCP,” Tsabedze stated.
