Africa-Press – Eswatini. Joel Mamba, the Sithobelweni Constituency Headman says residents from his constituency have expressed their frustration over King Mswati and Government’s failure to upgrade the 75km Hlathikhulu-Sphofaneni gravel road despite a promise made over twenty(20)years ago.
On Thursday,the Headman alleged that Mswati promised to upgrade the road during the official opening of the banana plantation at Khubutha around the year 2000,but that promise has not been fulfilled.“Even during the recent opening of the Siphofaneni bridge, the King reiterated his promise to upgrade the road and we even sent a delegation to thank him for that .
But we have since learnt that it was just a political statement since there’s no paperwork to that effect”, he said Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, the Minister of Public Works and Transport had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On another note, the Sithobelweni Constituency Headman said life was literally a struggle in the area due to the bad state of the road.The road is now in a very bad state and its getting worse due to the heavy rains and vehicles breakdown in the middle of the road due to the gullies and puddles (pools of water). People now abandon their cars and opt for public transport which is also heavily affected by the bad state of the road and we last saw a grader more than a year ago,”said the Headman.
