Africa-Press – Eswatini. Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini has come hard on pro-democracy Members of Parliament (MPs) Bacede Mabuza, Mthandeni Dube and exiled Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane for not being loyal to King Mswati.
This comes after the three MPs called for democratic reforms in Parliament, the calls were followed by a series of protests by citizens calling for Mswati’s removal from power.
Speaking during the official opening of Parliament on Friday in the presence of King Mswati, the Senate President blamed Parliamentarians for failing to ensure peace and stability and pay allegiance to King Mswati’s Throne.
“Lwandlo’lukhulu it is unfortunate that Parliament failed to pay allegiance to the Throne and we failed to uphold our position of being custodians of peace and stability. We will ensure Silos’khulu that instruments are in place to ensure that such is never repeated. It is my honour Lwandlo’lukhulu to present this gift of 5 cattle to you your Majesty from your Parliament”, said the Senate President .
When reached for comments, exiled Member of Parliament and now President of Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane said the problem with the Senate President was that she was never elected and didn’t feel the pain of the people.
“The Senate President is out of touch with reality because she was never elected and has always been appointed to positions of authority. Such a person does not know the pain felt by the people on the ground. Parliament failed to adress the issue of petitions brought by emaSwati and instead allowed such an exercise to be stopped”, said the SWALIMO Presidential .
