Africa-Press – Eswatini. Injuries are a huge financial cost toteams,not only because of medical fees, but also because they can completely disrupt a team’s plans. Therefore, MTN Premier League teams took a firm stand and have strongly warned players about playing in stokvels (social games) during the Christmas break.
The Premier and National First Division Leagues took a break to give way for the festive holidays,which was further stretched as the Premier League of Eswatini announced the postponement of league matches to address concerns pertaining match organisation following the chaos that recently erupted during league games.
“Our players are strictly not allowed
to participate in any stokvels, even though they can go and attend in their respective communities to offer support if they choose to,” said Royal Leopards Chief Executive Officer Frank Hurube.
Urged
Mbabane Swallows General Manager Sandile ‘Beyond 2 000’Zwane reiterated Hurube’s sentiments, and urged players to be on their best behaviour during the holidays. “There’s a lot of one day tournaments that take place, but we urge our players to not participate because they risk getting injured and costing the team,” said Zwane, adding that theywere looking forward to the resumption of the league. “We wish our fans the merriest of holidays, and promise towork harder when we get back next year,” assured Zwane.
Consequences
Denver Sundowns CEO Elvis Dube said the team’s management had a meeting with the players and made clear the
consequences they stand to suffer if they break the rules. Hub giants Manzini Wanderers Public Relations Officer Lucky ‘Majayivane’ Dlamini said the teamhad also warned their players about stokvels. “Our players know that they are not allowed to play in stokvels as the league will resume andwewant everyone back healthy and fit,” he said.
